If it still shows ‘ESSENTIAL REPEAT’ or a fail status, you did not clear the compartment exam and need to follow the reappear options mentioned in the FAQ (private candidate route or NIOS on-demand exam).
Q: If I fail again, when exactly is the next chance — do I have to wait a full year?
Yes, if you don’t clear this compartment exam, the next opportunity through CBSE is as a private candidate in the Class 12 exam cycle starting Feb-March 2027 (results around May 2027). Alternatively, NIOS on-demand exams run more frequently (roughly every 2-3 months) and let you clear the subject much sooner without waiting for the CBSE annual cycle.
Q: How is my compartment result merged with my original marksheet — do I get a whole new certificate?
You do not get an entirely new certificate. CBSE issues an amended/updated marksheet that replaces the marks of the failed subject(s) with your compartment exam marks, while your other subject marks and overall roll number stay the same.
